PHYSIOTHERAPIST & SCARWORK PRACTITIONER
ABOUT ME
I am a Physiotherapist whose practice is built on years of witnessing how the mind and the body are entwined.
I have experience both in hospitals and in the community with musculoskeletal as well as respiratory and neurological conditions. I currently work across Oncology and Surgical specialties within NHS Lothian where I support people to regain their fitness and function throughout all stages of life.
My core work is with scars, working to help relieve tightness and pain in the body. I am an accredited ScarWork™ therapist, with a specialism in Abdominal and Pelvic Scars. I draw on techniques from other disciplines in order to provide a holistic approach that acknowledges the wider systems of the mind and the body.
My practice is a reflection of modalities, research and understanding that I have accumulated over the years, including the following:
-
I have completed an MSc in War & Psychiatry at King's College London, which drew my awareness to the variety of ways in which emotional and physical trauma settle in the body.
-
I have a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy, am registered with the HCPC and am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, allowing me to stay current with the latest evidence and practice.
-
I am qualified in Holistic, Sports and Pregnancy Massage as well as Hypopressives, giving me a long history with bodywork.
I aim to:
-
provide a thorough and unhurried verbal and physical assessment
-
establish what you want and need from our time together
-
provide effective treatments which may be a mixture of "hands-on" techniques as well as advice, explanation, movement, stretching and exercise
I believe movement (of any kind) is crucial in life as it allows us to connect with ourselves, others and the world around us. I strive to ensure that my practice is always led by consent and is trans, queer and sex worker inclusive. I work in a trauma informed manner, you are therefore welcome to share your experiences but this is in no way a requirement. Come as you are.
